Before you start
- Identify whether this is a personal, Family, or team account; the deletion path depends on the plan.
- Save files you need. An active subscription may need cancellation before account deletion.
- Team members should contact an admin rather than use the personal-account path.
Steps
- For Basic, Plus, Professional, or Essentials: open your avatar, choose Settings, then find Delete account at the bottom of General.
- Dropbox Family and team accounts follow different instructions on the official page. Follow the path for the confirmed account type.
What happens after
- Dropbox says the account cannot be restored after deletion. Save files you need first.
- Files in private folders are removed from Dropbox; local synced copies remain on your computer but stop syncing.
- Shared-folder members may still access shared content, while you lose access and editing rights.
Can't sign in?
Contact Dropbox's support from the email address on the account and ask for it to be closed. Expect them to check that the account is yours first.
